Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, how it is used, and the limited cases in which another party may receive it. By using Putnam County Criminal History, a visitor accepts the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A query entered in a search tool goes directly to the outside provider that operates it. That company processes the terms and supplies its own results. We do not keep a separate log of names or places entered into those tools.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained as needed to answer and manage the exchange. It is not shared beyond our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems receive routine technical information when a page loads, including:

  • Your device's internet protocol address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Pages viewed and the length of each visit
  • Any referring website
  • The date and time of page requests

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure how visitors move through the site. Analytics providers combine this activity into traffic reports, such as popular pages and exit points. Browser controls can reject or remove cookies, although that choice may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing errors and improving load times
  • Directing a search query to the selected partner
  • Measuring which resources visitors use
  • Maintaining and securing site operations
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Putnam County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official custodians, including the Putnam County Sheriff, local court clerks, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, not this policy, govern information submitted to them. Each partner sets its own retention, use, and disclosure practices, so review those terms before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Putnam County offices, New York court and agency portals, legal resources, or private services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy terms control. Check them before providing personal data.

Advertising providers may use their own technology to recognize activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

  • Advertising networks that serve page content
  • Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
  • Search providers that receive a visitor's query
  • Government authorities when valid legal process requires disclosure

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet service is completely secure, so absolute protection against every unauthorized event cannot be promised.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such data is identified, it will be removed when reasonably verified.

Your Data Rights

Available privacy rights depend on the law that applies to the visitor and the information. New York's Freedom of Information Law governs records held by public agencies, not private-site visitor data. Visitors may still ask to:

  • Obtain a copy of personal information we retain about them
  • Correct personal information shown to be inaccurate
  • Request deletion where retention is not required
  • Object to certain processing where applicable

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
